College Admissions Essay Workshop (F23)

In this active learning workshop, students will read samples of effective college admissions essays to get a sense of what works. If time allows, they will also brainstorm potential topics to write about. They will leave with guidance on how to proceed in their local context.

Dr. Eric Drown (UNE Student Academic Success Center) has counseled hundreds of students writing college- and graduate-school admissions essays. Donald Vivian is Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions at UNE.

Agenda

  1. What do successful college students do? What traits do they have?
  2. What skills and competencies are undergraduates supposed to develop during their years in college?
  3. How do successful college admissions essay writers convey these traits?
  4. How to get started and how to ask for feedback?
